The new year started with a busy month for our Education Program students. Students within the program receive a full scholarship for their university education, covering their entire fees till graduation. They also receive various training courses and are supported in finding internship opportunities that provide them with the needed experience before entering the job market. Students also have to do voluntary work and community service to give back to the community.
This month, January 2013, the students participated in one voluntary opportunity and took 2 training courses.
As part of our partnership with THE Group on the Pass It On Initiative we received boxes and boxes of book donations that our students and volunteers helped out in sorting out and organizing at our office.
The first ever training course within our Education Program was a Soft Skills Training generously given by Zain with their employees as trainers over 4 days as follows:
21/1/2013 Communication Skills – Trainers Mohammad Atta and Mohammad Anani
22/1/2013 Time Management – Trainer Lana Othman
27/1/2013 Resume Building and Interviewing Skills – Trainer Lamia Asmar
28/1/2013 Presentation and Public Speaking Skills – Trainer Mohammad Shawish
The students emerged with basic communication skills and knowledge in building CVs and managing their time that will help them during their years at university and with work further down the line.
The second training for this month was in the form of an interactive session under the umbrella of political participation on the subject of electoral systems. The session was given by Dr. Towfic Shomar, head of department of humanities at Philadelphia University and introduced the students to various electoral systems discussing which options would be best for Jordan. The session was connected to the need for the development of the students’ knowledge and active participation within the community that surrounds them.
These training courses and sessions are taking place due to the sense of social responsibility as well as the civic engagement and solidarity of our partners and supporters. Under My Olive Tree sends its appreciation and gratitude to Zain and Dr. Towfic Shomar for supporting the Education Program and looks forward for lasting and fruitful partnerships with the public and private sector and all individuals who volunteer their time and effort to support the community and Under My Olive Tree.
